April is the fourth month of the year which consists of 30 days. April is named after the Greek goddess Aphrodite. Its name is derived from aperit which is a Latin word meaning ‘open’. Aprilis is the old English name of April and the Greeks used to call it as ‘Aphro’. April is generally the 4 month according to the Gregorian calendar however it is the 2 month according to Roman calendar. April is often called as the month of innocence as its birthstone is Diamond which is a symbol of innocence itself. In the United States, this month is also celebrated as National Month. Emancipation Day is a regional holiday observed in Washington D.C…; the U.S.A. The day marks the famous District of Columbia Compensated Emancipation Act signed by the then President of the United States Abraham Lincoln. As soon as the act was passed 3000 slaves in the District of Columbia were freed. Since then it has been marked as an official holiday since 2005.
